NZPPS mentoring programme

In 2014 a survey of university students studying in plant protection topics identified that they would like the NZPPS to implement a mentoring programme for those students that wish to seek external advice on their academic choices and career opportunities. This was implemented in early 2015.

The NZPPS executive committee seeks mentors from senior NZPPS members working in all areas of Plant Protection. The role for the mentor is to support the student in their goals and academic path at university. The mentor acts as a tuākana (guide) for the teina (student) and provides them with chances to learn from their own experiences as well as opportunities to meet influential people in the plant protection industry.

Contact between mentor and student is at their own discretion but is normally by video conference or face-to-face meetings two to three times a year, with occasional email contact as required.

Full details, including contact information, are available in the mentoring guidelines.
