JW Marriott Hotel, Auckland

This Symposium aims to connect and share new research and emerging science and technologies between researchers, industry, regulators, and policymakers involved in moving Aotearoa NZ towards a shared agrichemical light future. Synthetic pesticides and fertilisers have always played a key role in primary production, but to retain our competitive edge in the future, a paradigm shift is required. A multidisciplinary, coordinated cross-sectoral approach is essential to ensure growers and land managers have the tools they need to maintain their social license to operate and be good stewards of the land amid increasing regulation and growing demands from domestic and international consumers.

The Symposium would be jointly hosted by the NZPPS, the Agrichemical-Light Solutions for a Sustainable Future programme (AgResearch), Plant & Food Research and A Lighter Touch. The symposium will focus on delivery of new and emerging crop protection science in the face of increasing challenges around climate change and resource limitations, and the need to produce more safe and nutritious food while conserving biodiversity.

The organising committee is still being developed but it will include:
1) AgResearch: David Wright – Programme Leader of Agrichemical Light Solutions for a Sustainable Future; Maureen O’Callaghan – Principal Scientist.
2) PFR: Phil Elmer: Team Leader – Biocontrol and Induced Resistance.
3) A Lighter Touch: Gina Jewell – Senior Communications Manager.
4) NZ Biotech representative.
5) Sector champion
6) NZPPS Executive Committee members.
