Horticultural scientist recognised

Dr Jim Walker's significant contribution to plant protection during a 30-year career has been recognised by the Plant Protection Society. Dr Walker, who works with Plant & Food Research in Havelock North, was presented with a prestigious New Zealand Plant Protection Medal during the 64th New Zealand Plant Protection Society Conference in Rotorua in August.

At the recent NZ Plant Protection Society Conference in Dunedin the 2009 New Zealand Plant Protection Society Medal was awarded to Ken Jeffery in recognition of the exceptional contribution he has made to plant protection in a career spanning almost half a century.

Bugman plea to stop the sale of invasive plants

New Zealand's famous 'bugman', Animal Planet's Ruud Kleinpaste has urged garden nurseries to stop selling plants that could invade and damage the country's ecosystems. Mr Kleinpaste made the plea when he presented West Aucklandís Oratia Native Plant Nursery with this year's most Weed Wise Nursery Award from the Council of Australasian Weed Societies Inc (CAWS).

New Zealand Plant Protection Medal 2007

The inaugural New Zealand Plant Protection Medal, awarded for exceptional services to plant protection in New Zealand, was presented to Dr Howard Wearing at a ceremony during the 60th conference of the NZ Plant Protection Society in Napier on 15 August 2007.
